Having garnered double-digit college scholarship offers including a recent one from Tennessee, Chancellor (Fredericksburg, VA) junior offensive lineman Steven Moss is already well known on the major college recruiting front. The Chargers boast a second major college prospect on the O-line, though, in sophomore Matt Burrell.
Clemson and North Carolina have offered Burrell, who is also very much on the radar of in-state ACC programs UVa and Virginia Tech. Assistant coach Chris Lam, who handles recruiting for the Chargers varsity squad, feels as though a Virginia offer is “right around the corner.”
“Matthew Burrell is a very hard worker on and off the field and in the classroom,” Lam wrote in an e-mail. “He is an excellent athlete for his size (6’5″ 265 lbs.) and is only 15 years old. He had a great sophomore season and progressed each week. He has an excellent frame and will continue to grow and develop.”
Burrell earned first-team all-Battlefield District honors this past season for his play at offensive tackle. A good athlete, he is playing on the Chargers varsity basketball squad this season.
