The last time Virginia football fans saw their team in full scrimmage action, things didn’t go well for the offensive line. In April’s Spring Game, the defense dominated the day with 14 sacks, including 2 safeties, and 22 total tackles for loss, including 1 safety. The D also posted 9 pass break-ups.
That performance prompted a front-line shuffle as the Hoos continued to install new offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild’s system. Luke Bowanko moved from center to left guard, which placed him alongside Morgan Moses. Those two seniors performed well as a tandem on the right side of the line in 2011. Redshirt freshman walk-on Jackson Matteo had risen to the top of the depth chart at center with Sean Cascarano and Jay Whitmire penciled in at right guard and right tackle, respectively.
