Kenny Towns led off the top of the sixth with a double, moving up to third on an error and scored the go-ahead run off John La Prise’s RBI ground out to stake UVa to a 2-1 lead. Virginia never looked back using a three-run seventh and adding insurance in the 8th and 9th to secure a 7-3 win over the Maryland Terrapins in game two of Charlottesville Super Regional.

The win knots the best-of-three Super Regional with Maryland (40-22) at a game each setting up a deciding game three Monday with the winner securing a slot in the 2014 College World Series in Omaha. Game time is set for 7:00 PM Monday night and will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Six Virginia hitters had a multi-hit game as the Cavaliers used a 17-hit attack to force the rubber game. The 17 hits on Sunday tied for the second-most all-time for the Cavaliers in an NCAA Tournament game.

Like Maryland’s Jake Stinnett yesterday, Virginia starter Brandon Waddell (9-3) was not at his best today but grinded out 5.2 innings, given up seven hits and walking three. But Waddell allowed just one run while holding UM to 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
