Promising Sophomore QB Boasts Major FBS Offers

Lindell Stone’s first start at Woodberry Forest (VA) came last season. As a freshman, the Southlake (TX) native led Woodberry to a 24-14 win over Collegiate, which would ultimately make it to the 2013 VIS Division 1 state championship game. In the win, Stone completed 12 of 18 passes and rushed for two touchdowns. Last week, in Woodberry’s 2014 season opener, Stone helped his team to a 13-8 win over the always tough Liberty Christian.

“He had a great camp. He has been very impressive,” Woodberry head coach Clint Alexander said of Stone, who was Woodberry’s backup quarterback last season but enters this year as the clear starter. “He has a tremendously quick release. He’s accurate. He throws the ball right where it needs to be.”

“I just try to be a leader on the field,” Stone said. “The quarterback, no matter what the team, is the leader of the team. I try and keep my poise and lead the team. When I’m on the field, I’m just trying to lead everyone to a common goal. I think [head coach Clint Alexander] does a great job of instilling a team mindset in us.”

The 6’2” Stone has the attention of college recruiters. UCLA, UVa and Temple have offered scholarships. Maryland, North Carolina and Stanford are among the schools expressing serious interest in the standout sophomore.
