Iona Prep (New Rochelle, N.Y.) class of 2016 combo guard Ty Jerome was pleased to learn on Monday that Indianapolis (IN) combo guard Kyle Guy, who is also a junior, had decided to attend the University of Virginia. Jerome received a text from Guy before the commitment news broke, and later on he spoke with Cavaliers head coach Tony Bennett.
“I was thrilled when I heard the news,” Jerome wrote in a Twitter direct message to TheSabre.com.
Jerome says Bennett “seemed ecstatic when he called me. Coach Bennett explained to me how well we fit together because we can both really shoot and make plays.”
UVa’s future backcourt is not too familiar with each other right now, but that could change soon.
“I’m definitely coming for an official sometime soon either in February or in the spring or possibly late August. Me and Kyle actually talked about taking our official visit together,” Jerome said.
Jerome, a 6’4” guard, committed to the Hoos over George Washington and Temple on September 2, just two days after making an unofficial visit to Virginia the day of the football program’s game against UCLA. The past few months he has shown why Tony Bennett made him a priority with top performances in a variety of events including the Jim Couch Super 16 Uptown Challenge Metro game, which showcases top talents from New York.
“I’m performing very well. I got MVP in the Jim Couch Super 16, I played well in the Sharette Dixon game, and I have been playing very well in my fall league with my high school and in the IS8 fall league,” said Jerome, who poured in 30 points in the Jim Couch event....
