Greg’s Grades & Trends: UCLA, Notre Dame

I feel like a broken record.

I truly hoped that this season I could watch games and have some new trends to report on that differed from most of the 2014 trends. Alas, we will be discussing offensive red zone inefficiency, the inability to create big plays and a struggling running game – again.

While I do factor in the strength of opponents it is not a significant component of the grading system. That said, by the time Sept. 19 rolls around Virginia may well have played its two most difficult games of the season and by the end of the season we may discover that UCLA was the toughest. The Bruins have outstanding offensive and defensive fronts and highly talented skill personnel. Virginia was outcoached and outmanned by an outfit that will be fighting for an NCAA playoff berth this season. So if there is a bright spot from UVa’s 34-16 loss to the Bruins, it is that for 37 minutes the Hoos were in the game.
