UVA is one of 16 schools on coveted power forward/center Armando Bacot‘s scholarship offer list. Duke is interested but has not yet offered. The star sophomore attended games at both schools last week.
Bacot’s first stop was Charlottesville to see the Cavaliers take on Louisville.
“I’ve been to UVA a few times,” said the 6’9”, 225-pound Trinity Episcopal (Richmond, VA) star, who was accompanied at John Paul Jones Arena by his teammate, junior wing Jason Wade, who is receiving interest from the Hoos. “The atmosphere is great. I love how passionate Coach Bennett is. Coach Jason Williford is from Richmond. He’s always good to talk to. With UVA, Cory Alexander played there and I know him well.”
While visiting Virginia late last August, Bacot was offered a scholarship by head coach Tony Bennett. Thanks to Florida coming through on February 13, the outstanding student athlete (he carries a 3.9 GPA) now boasts 16 scholarship offers in total: Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, JMU, Miami, Wake Forest, St. John’s, Old Dominion, Penn State, Providence, Richmond, Virginia, VCU, and Virginia Tech.
Having had the chance to see UVA up close multiple times, Bacot was asked for his take on the Cavalier program.
“I’d say UVA is more like an NBA team,” Bacot said. “They play like the Spurs. They focus on defense. It is kind of like a system. I know Coach Bennett is a really good coach. He can coach just about any and everything.”
Virginia, which was the first school to start recruiting Bacot, is certainly in hot pursuit of the humble big man. However, Coach Bennett and Coach Williford
