St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) rising senior Semar Melvin, who ranks as a 4-star prospect and the No. 37 cornerback in the nation in his class, was in Charlottesville June 7-9 on an official visit. With the 6’0”, 170-pound prospect aiming to make his college commitment on June 23, the trip was certainly an important one to the University of Virginia’s chances.

Melvin provided his thoughts on UVA in an interview with via Twitter direct message.

“I loved UVA,” Melvin wrote. “It was a great visit. The campus is great, coaching staff is great, facilities, everything. It was definitely an eye-opener when I left there.”

Virginia’s coaches, who have received commitments from three Sunshine State products in the class of 2019 and landed four Florida recruits in 2018, made a positive impression on Melvin.

“The coaches really treated me like family during my time spent up there. It was a great connection with all of them,” Melvin wrote. “They’re a great group of people without a doubt. They’re message was ‘Family first, second, and always.’ That really stuck with me.”

Melvin has taken an unofficial visit to Syracuse and plans to take an official visit to Wisconsin this coming weekend. No further visits have been scheduled. In addition to the three schools already mentioned, Melvin claims offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech, among others.

With less than two weeks remaining before an announcement, the talented student athlete says there is “no favorite.”
