In two years as head coach, Damin Altizer has guided the St. Anne’s-Belfield boys varsity basketball program to a 37-20 record, including a 20-9 mark this past spring. In addition to his post at the Charlottesville (VA) private school, Altizer operates DR1VEN Training, a basketball development company that has worked with a number of former Virginia players including Devon Hall, De’Andre Hunter, and Ty Jerome.

Coach Altizer took some time to discuss Cavalier incoming freshman walk-on point guard Malachi Poindexter, STAB rising junior Justin Taylor, who has emerged as one of the top wing prospects in the nation in his class, and the former Hoos mentioned above.

Poindexter Begins UVA Career

Poindexter spent three years at Louisa County High School (Mineral, VA) before reclassifying and transferring to St. Anne’s-Belfield ahead of the 2018-19 school year. In March of this year, the Saints senior point guard announced his college intentions.

The 6’2”, 176-pound Poindexter is now officially a member of the Virginia basketball program, which recently released the official 2020-21 roster. He will don the #11 jersey for the Hoos this season.
