Graduate Transfer Ra’Shaun Henry Impressing Early In Open WR Competition

In addition to losing quarterback Bryce Perkins, who accounted for 79.1% of the offense (4,307 of 5,445 yards) and 64.7% of the team’s offensive touchdowns (33 of 51 scores), the University of Virginia football program must replace a tremendous amount of production at the wide receiver position.

Hasise Dubois and Los Angeles Chargers fifth-round draft pick Joe Reed combined for 152 catches for 1,741 yards and 13 scores in UVA’s historic 2019 campaign. Those numbers equated to 52.4-percent of receptions, 52.7-percent of yards, and 65% of touchdowns from the wide receiver unit

The good news for Virginia is that the Hoos return senior Terrell Jana, who had 74 receptions for 886 yards and three touchdowns in what was a breakout 2019 season. Junior Billy Kemp IV returns as well. The H-Back is confident and competitive, and last season he totaled 35 catches for 289 yards and a touchdown.

Jana and Kemp IV enter fall camp as the most reliable options at receiver with Jana being the clear no. 1. The position remains wide open for more playmakers to emerge. The Hoos have potential breakout performers among returning players, such as speedy but inconsistent junior Tavares Kelly and physically impressive sophomore Dontayvion Wicks, but graduate transfer Ra’Shaun Henry has emerged as a strong option based off early camp reviews.
