Benedictine (Richmond, VA) wide receiver prospect Leon Haughton Jr. claims 15 FBS offers, 11 of which are from schools in Power 5 conferences, as well as three Ivy League opportunities. The 6’4”, 195-pound rising senior is anxious to take a deeper dive into some of these schools. He’ll get his chance when the recruiting dead period comes to an end May 31.
“As far as my recruitment, it was definitely hard [not being able to take official visits or unofficial visits because of a recruiting dead period in place since spring of 2020],” said Haughton Jr., whose offers include Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. “Coaches can say anything on the phone to make a place sound good. I definitely do plan on getting to a good amount of schools and seeing them in person.”
“I actually can’t wait [to take official visits],” Haughton Jr. added. “I’ve seen great things on TV about these schools.”
The University of Virginia football program signed its most highly rated recruiting class of the Bronco Mendenhall era in 2021. Nine prospects who attended state of Virginia schools signed with the Hoos, including Benedictine product Jay Woolfolk. The talented signal caller became the first Cadet to sign with UVA since Mendenhall was hired. Benedictine senior wide receiver Dillon Tennyson later accepted a preferred walk-on spot with Virginia.
