Virginia Athletics Fall Sports Storylines To Watch

As the 2023 academic year gets started on Grounds, the Virginia fall athletic teams are also beginning their seasons. Each team has different goals and expectations for this year. Some have hopes of competing for a National Championship, while others are in a rebuilding phase and just looking to improve upon their 2022 performances.

It’s time for a look at a couple of the biggest storylines from each fall team.

Virginia Football

1. Second Season For Coach Elliott. Tony Elliott’s time at Virginia did not get off to the start he had in mind, as the Cavaliers struggled in his first season. The team looked sloppy at times and the offense especially just couldn’t move the ball or put up points. Lots of eyes will be on Coach Elliott’s offense this season as they have had an additional offseason to learn his playbook and hammer out the inconsistencies. Cavalier fans will be hoping this team can make significant strides in the second year of the post-Bronco Mendenhall era.

2. Tony Muskett Making The Jump. After the departure of quarterback Brennan Armstrong, the coaching staff brought in Muskett from Monmouth University to fill the hole. Muskett was productive over his three seasons with the Hawks, throwing for 51 total touchdowns. It’ll be interesting to see how his play translates to the ACC. Players are bigger, faster, and stronger at the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level, so it could take time for Muskett to make that transition.
