The Virginia baseball team’s much-needed win against the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday ended an 8-game losing streak at Alex Rodriguez Park where the Hoos have not taken a road series against the Hurricanes since 2016.
UVA coach Brian O’Connor called Sunday’s win “one of those rarities” where even though pitching struggled again, the offense “would not be denied.”
“Miami’s got a really good ball club and this is a tough [road] environment,” he added. “How we lost game one and two, for our players to respond after the first two difficult losses shows the character that they have. Today was one of 30 ACC games and that’s the way to have to treat it. You have to delete what’s happened. If you don’t play great, if you don’t pitch great, you’re going to lose in this league.”

UVA posted 63 runs in its 5 games (12.6/game) last week with 80 hits, 59 RBI, 46 extra-base hits, 15 home runs, 26 walks, and 10 stolen bases. The Hoos were fanned 34 times. But when you look at the Miami series the Cavaliers fell short in several statistical areas.
