One second Casey Saucke was bent over in pain after fouling a ball off his knee, a feat he’s still not sure how it happened. The next second Casey Saucke was trotting around the Virginia bases waiting for the ball to land next door at Klöckner Stadium.
“I think that’s the farthest ball I’ve ever hit, I think that one tops everything else,” Saucke said after the game still in disbelief.
Saucke’s 463-foot home run well over the left field stands sparked a 6-run inning by Virginia on Tuesday to avoid the upset against William & Mary. Upon returning to the dugout with any pain in his knee now eased, Saucke was greeted by the traditional chest bump and some light-hearted words from Cavalier coach Brian O’Connor.
“After he hit it, I told him I’m going to kick him in the knee every time before he goes up,” O’Connor joked.
