The Virginia baseball team capped off a four-game week with a 3-1 record, concluding with a 2-1 ACC series victory over Coastal Division leader North Carolina. The Hoos took games one and two from the Heels but failed to capture the finale on Saturday as UNC grabbed its first win at Disharoon Park since 2018.

Let’s take a look at 3 Virginia Baseball Things.

Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad

Game one marked Virginia’s 15th come-from-behind win in 32 games this season. The Hoos took an early 6-2 lead in the first inning, but UNC scored nine unanswered runs in the second and third innings for an 11-6 advantage.

Starting pitcher Cullen McKay faced just nine hitters, posted 4 walks and allowing 4 earned runs on just 1 hit. The game was McKay’s shortest starting outing of the season. Reliever Chase Hungate fared no better giving up 7 runs in 1.1 innings. The home team brought in righty Blake Barker to quiet the Heels and he did just that. His 3.1 innings of shutout baseball gave the Hoos an opportunity to punch back and the offense scored 8 unanswered runs for the 14-11 final tally. Six of UVA’s 14 runs came complements of first year sensation Henry Ford (more on him below).
