Virginia Baseball: 3 Things On Defense, Relief Pitchers, Griff O’Ferrall

The Virginia baseball team had a chance at gaining some ground on North Carolina and Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division this past weekend and couldn’t get it done. The Hoos salvaged a win on Saturday against Georgia Tech to avoid a debilitating sweep and will look to get back on track this weekend against the 7-14 Boston College Eagles.

“We swung the bats well but the defense and pitching is a lot of times what it comes down to,” said UVA coach Brian O’Connor. “All year long we’ve scored a ton of runs in the games and [this weekend] it wasn’t enough. It still comes back to you have to pitch and defend at a certain level and this wasn’t anywhere close to where we need to be.”
