The Virginia basketball team’s losses this season have all met “what could have been” qualifications and the loss to Virginia Tech on Sunday proved no different. The Double Bonus takes a peek back at the rivalry game.

Of its six losses this season, UVA has fallen twice in overtime. The Hoos have led or been tied in the final 1:30 of regulation three times. They’ve held a double-digit lead in the second half three times. If one or two fall their way, the Cavaliers could be ranked in the top 5, in the driver’s seat for a third ACC regular season title, and on the top two seed lines for the NCAA Tournament.

As it is, Virginia remains ranked in the top 15, in the hunt for the ACC title or at least an ACC Tournament double bye, and as a three seed in early NCAA bracket projections. Not bad. Still, I think UVA fans hope the “what could have been” losses get paid back with some good karma in March.

On to the rest of the Double Bonus, which includes a quick look at Duke.
