Virginia Basketball Double Bonus: Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh

The Virginia basketball team reeled off two convincing wins last week, throttling Georgia Tech 81-51 and Pittsburgh 73-49. Those victories put UVA in position to play for the ACC Regular Season title entering the last week of the season. That’s something that Cavalier coach Tony Bennett said the program embraces.

“We talked about it, for sure,” Bennett said. “There’s something I read in a book, but it was a coach talking about the joy of a competition and the fun in a pursuit of a championship. We’re fortunate for the conference to be in the pursuit. So have joy, have fun doing then, and then you better be locked in and ready to go. But, they’d be aware of it I didn’t say anything, but knowing that that’s where you’re at. Over the regular season conference title, if you’re in contention for that, that’s a test. That’s long, a lot of games, and very important.”

Before the Hoos finish the season against Syracuse and Louisville in pursuit of that championship, the Double Bonus is back for a look at some things in the GT and Pitt games.

Zone Attacks

With Syracuse on the menu next, it’s likely been good that opponents have thrown a lot of zone UVA’s way lately. The Orange, of course, execute their 2-3 zone as well as anyone, but having a chance to work some zone concepts before the test in the Carrier Dome could be beneficial.
