The Virginia basketball team picked up two more wins as it topped Boston College at home and Pittsburgh on the road last week. That kept the Hoos on track for a double bye in the ACC Tournament and for likely inclusion in the NCAA Tournament field.
The successful week pushed UVA’s recent string to eight wins in its last 10 games, including four straight victories. That left the Cavaliers at 19-7 overall and 11-5 in ACC play with four games left to play. The program has posted eight straight seasons with at least 11 ACC wins. It’s also the ninth straight winning record in ACC play, putting coach Tony Bennett in some elite company. According to reporter David Teel, Bennett is just the fifth coach to accomplish that feat, joining Duke’s Vic Bubas and Mike Krzyzewski and UNC’s Dean Smith and Roy Williams.
...With today’s victory, #UVa (19-7, 11-5) has clinched a 9th consecutive winning #ACC season. Coaches who have led programs to at least 9 straight winning @accmbb records:
Duke’s Vic Bubas & Mike Krzyzewski.
