The Virginia basketball team grabbed another ACC road win this past weekend at Boston College. The Hoos prevailed 61-49 on Saturday as they gave the Eagles trouble in the paint on both ends of the floor. The Double Bonus returns to take a closer look at the latest victory.

Hauser’s Rebounding Surge

You’ve seen the stat by now: Sam Hauser posted his third straight double-double at the start of ACC play with 17 points and 10 rebounds at Boston College. That’s bumped up his UVA career total to match Mamadi Diakite, De’Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome, Rich Katstra, Mel Kennedy, Braxton Key, Cornel Parker, Barry Parkhill, Devin Smith, Mike Tobey, London Perrantes, and Othell Wilson. That’s a list of easily recognizable names, including six others from the Tony Bennett era.

This is not just a rebounding stat stuffer exercise, though. Just how impressive has this stretch for Hauser been over these three games? Here’s some context. With 31 rebounds across three games, Hauser has put himself near the top of the Bennett era charts. Based on my scanning of statistics, only Isaiah Wilkins, Darion Atkins, Akil Mitchell, Mike Scott, and Assane Sene have had a three-game run with at least 30 rebounds in those 12 seasons. Only Mitchell, Scott, and Sene have had more than Hauser’s 31 rebounds in a three-game stretch. Mitchell and Scott are the only two players to put together three-game strings like this more than once – they did it 12 times combined! If you’re wondering, Braxton Key, Mamadi Diakite, and Anthony Gill all came close (Key 29, Gill 29, Diakite 27; Wilkins and Mitchell also had two other three-game runs of 29 rebounds).

Here’s the list:
