While the Virginia football team has left many UVA fans searching for greener pastures, basketball season is right around the corner and there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Much like with this football season, last year’s Cavalier basketball performance left fans yearning for more as the Hoos fell to St. Bonaventure in the NIT and posted a 21-14 overall record.

However, this season brings new energy and life into the program and there is plenty to look forward to. Here are some of the things that I’ll be watching for during the Virginia Basketball Blue-White Scrimmage this year. The men’s and women’s teams jointly host the event on Saturday with gates open at 12:30 and basketball action beginning at 1:30. The men’s portion of the scrimmage is scheduled for approximately 2:15 p.m. and a Meet The Teams event follows for 30 minutes.

One of the most heavily anticipated aspects of the 2022 season is the arrival of the dynamic duo popularly dubbed Isaac^2. The freshman combo of Isaac McKneely and Isaac Traudt made a splash when they announced their commitment to the University. Now, geared up and ready to go, these two young talents have the ability to make an immediate impact on the floor for the Cavaliers.

McKneely comes to UVA from West Virginia, where the 6’4″ 179-pound guard was a two-time West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year (2021 & 2022). His junior year, McKneely averaged 22 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. While these numbers were stout, he continued to improve into his senior year in which he averaged 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block per game.
