Virginia Basketball Double Bonus: North Carolina

The Virginia basketball team treated an enthusiastic crowd to a win against North Carolina on Tuesday night. That made it eight straight against the Tar Heels at the John Paul Jones Arena and improved the Hoos to 4-2 in the ACC.

UVA staged a second half rally with a small ball lineup that featured Kihei Clark, Reece Beekman, Armaan Franklin, Isaac McKneely, and Ben Vander Plas for the final 15 minutes. That group led the way to 38 points after intermission on 53.6% shooting.

Make Jalen Washington Defend

The thing that jumped out to me watching the game live and then again on replay was it seemed clear that Virginia decided to challenge Carolina freshman Jalen Washington defensively. Washington picked up 26 minutes in this game as he filled in for Armando Bacot, who sprained an ankle in the first two minutes. He caught Dick Vitale’s attention and it’s easy to find numerous articles via Google about his contributions in this game. He scored 13 points (12 in the first half) for the Heels.
