Highland Park (Dallas, TX) rising senior Matt Gahm admits he has “always been very intrigued” by the University of Virginia.
“I’ve known about its academics for a long time,” he said. “That’s the first thing I’m looking for in a school. High academics in general, but finding a business school that’s highly ranked is important to me and I know Virginia’s is highly ranked. I was highly interested in Virginia from day one, and then when I look at coach Mendenhall and all he did at BYU I became even more interested.”
UVA’s pursuit of the 6’3”, 220-pound linebacker prospect began in May, during the middle of Highland Park’s spring football practice. That’s when Cavalier assistant coach Jason Beck stopped by to watch a Scots’ spring workout.
“He saw me practice and then I spoke with him at length,” Gahm recalled. “Since then, we have been e-mailing. Coach Beck always wanted me to visit [on June 18]. I planned that a while ago. We had been communicating back and forth for the best camp date. Coach Beck notified the other coaches that I would be participating [in last Friday’s camp].”
