Last season, Brennan Armstrong made his mark on the college football scene. In his first two seasons, he was used in a utility role, as Bryce Perkins shined from behind center. In 2020 and 2021, however, Armstrong rose to starter status and broke numerous Virginia passing records. Last fall, he posted the single-season passing yardage (4,449) and touchdowns (31) records in school history.

In short, Armstrong has already proven to be one of the most electrifying passers to ever suit up for the Cavaliers. He also has been able to take the Cavaliers’ offense to a whole new level, as they ranked No. 3 in total offense in 2021 without a sustainable rushing attack.

After that sensational season, rumors swirled about where he would end up next, whether it be the transfer portal or NFL Draft. Armstrong decided to return for his senior campaign and is expected to perform at a high level again even with a new coaching regime in town. He has been named to the preseason Watch Lists for the Maxwell, Davey O’Brien, Golden Arm, and Manning awards and the CFPA National Performer of the Year. Although he did not receive a Preseason All-ACC nod, he finished tied for fourth for ACC Preseason Player of the Year.

By the end of the season, Armstrong could own every major Virginia passing record. He’s easily within striking distance of records for career passing yards (678 to tie), career passing touchdowns (5 to tie), career completions (216 to tie), career 200-yard passing games (2 to tie) – marks all owned by Matt Schaub – and career total offense (190 to tie) recently set by Perkins.
