Wins are always a good thing no matter who you play, and I realize other Commonwealth teams had issues with lesser opponents this weekend. That said, it’s doubtful many Virginia football fans walked away from watching the 2022 debut euphoric about what they saw. Let’s call the feeling most felt as hopeful.
The Hoos won their opener 34-17 against Richmond, a widely expected result of course given the FCS level competition. That score fell short of the odds maker spread, though. Still, there were a fair amount of positive signs in the first game of the Tony Elliott era. The blend of the two likely led to the emotions leaving the game.
