The Virginia football team hoped a return home to Scott Stadium would help reverse its fortunes early this season, but the Hoos suffered more frustration instead. Against a Louisville team missing several key contributors, including star quarterback Malik Cunningham, the Cavaliers battled for a while but then suffered more frustration in a 34-17 loss.
The defeat sent UVA into its bye week with a 2-4 record that includes a winless 0-3 start in ACC play. Needless to say, the hopes were much higher for the debut season of Tony Elliott. The question now becomes can a pause in the schedule give the Wahoos a shot to reset the season for the second half of the schedule?
Some vocal fans think the team is light years away from anything resembling a chance to win games. Coaches think the team is close but needs to buckle down on execution to find more consistency and get over the hump. The players? On a roster with 100+ people, there’s likely to be a mixture of those two thought trains.
