After an 0-3 start in the ACC, the Virginia football team left Atlanta last Thursday happy to get a win – any win – in the books. The Cavaliers did exactly that with a 16-9 victory against Georgia Tech as much of the league’s Coastal Division continues to trade blows each week.

For the Hoos, though, it represented their first conference W and the first ACC win of Tony Elliott’s head coaching career. Following a close loss at Syracuse, a poor performance at Duke, and a fast-start-gone-wrong outing against Louisville, Virginia fought off similar in-game issues at times to take down Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers improved to 3-4 overall with the victory ahead of a four-game homestand that could change the season’s narrative to date.

In other words, this wasn’t really an instant classic or a vault worthy game, but it was an important one nonetheless. What did the Pro Football Focus (PFF) analysis say about the Wahoos this week? Let’s take a look. Previous weeks can be found here.

Virginia PFF Offensive Player Of The Game

The message board thread for The Sabre Offensive Player of the Game leaned toward quarterback Brennan Armstrong as the pick just ahead of receiver Dontayvion Wicks. Both of those players fared reasonably well in the Pro Football Focus data. Neither took the top spot, though, as fans should have stuck with the “Keytaon Thompson every week” strategy. Thompson led the offense with a 72.5 offensive execution grade. More on him below.
