JHoo: A Preseason Thing Or Two Or Three For Virginia Football

I’ve been hoping to squeeze in a preseason article for Virginia football. So here we go. But this may not be quite the usual preseason article. After all, it has not been quite the usual offseason, it has not be quite the usual camp, and I have no expectation that it will be quite the usual season.

Let’s start off with this. For those readers that have been on this site for a while, I suspect you know that I am a bit of an X-and-O nerd, especially when talking about the game of football. For those readers that have not been on this site for a while, trust others that tell you that I am an X-and-O nerd, especially when talking about the game of football.

The thing is, while the game certainly is about the X’s and the O’s in a very real sense, can we really say that is the case for Virginia football now?

I guess the answer to that is complicated. Of course, in a sense, it is … and ask anyone on the Virginia staff or the team and they will tell you the same thing. The X’s and O’s were not good enough last year, for a host of different reasons. From the top to the bottom of the program, they know it. There were moments. There were flashes. But in general, for a host of reasons, good moments did not build on good moments, and bad moments always seemed to be right around the corner.
