If Virginia Lines Don’t Perform Better, Rest Is Just Chatter

There may have been 40 years between meetings, but the Virginia and James Madison football series followed its historical roots Saturday as the Dukes won 36-35 in the final minute. The two most recent matchups also ended with small scoreboard margins after JMU won by 4 in 1982 and UVA prevailed by 7 in 1983.

The 2023 edition featured big momentum swings to get to its final one-point difference. Madison jumped out 14-0 and led 17-7 before Virginia ripped off a 28-7 surge for a double-digit lead. The game then ended with JMU scoring the final 12 points, all in the final 10 minutes of the fourth quarter.
