There’s not a great deal to say in the grades following a seventh straight loss, the most consecutive losses for a Virginia football team since 1982. As a fan, it’s draining, disheartening, and candidly, it’s a blight on UVA Athletics.

I realize the Hoos are getting better and they are to be commended for the work they are doing to improve. I give the coaches credit for making changes in personnel to help mitigate some of the earlier season issues. Having said that, these young men were accepted into one of the finest public institutions in the nation. They are not dumb. Yet, as we learned Friday night, there are discipline and common sense issues that continue to occur that are unexplainable. Stupid, no-talent penalties, watching punts bounce 15-25 yards further away from paydirt, and not delivering on the assignments the players have been given for their positions.

The staff can’t escape blame. They own this. I can’t recall the last game where my anger and frustration were at such a high pitch as it was at the end of the first half. Inane play calling plus incomprehensible clock and timeout management led to an inefficient, end of half offense. It was as if the coaches were telling the offense, “were just trying to get out of the first half with a tie” and the outcome is the team is down by seven at the break.

On the positive side of the ledger, five offense and defense units posted season high grades against the Pack along with three special teams units posting season highs also. Those grades have an * below. Let’s take a closer look.
