The Virginia Cavaliers claimed their sixth consecutive victory over the Duke Blue Devils at Scott Stadium with their 30-27 win Saturday. Across all three phases, the Cavaliers played solid football and the grades this week reflect that.

Before breaking down Tony Elliot’s first ACC home victory further, however, recognition is due to wide receiver Malik Washington for breaking Virginia’s single-season yards receiving record with his 90th reception of the year. He broke the all-time UVA season receptions record with his 94th catch of the 2023 campaign too. On the year, Washington now sits at 96 catches, 1,311 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns. On Monday, he was introduced as one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award presented by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc.

Here are some looming milestones he can surpass this weekend.

  • With one game left, he has a chance to move up in the record books to fourth place for a season if he hauls in his 10th TD pass this weekend against the Hokies.
  • With four more receptions he will become the sixth ACC player to catch 100 passes in a season.
  • With 9 total 100-yard receiving games in 2023, Washington can claim the most 100-yard receiving games in a UVA career if he closes out the season with number 10.
  • Finally, he needs just 36 yards to add his name to the league’s single season receiving yards top 10.

Beyond Washington, who was superb again, it was a solid game for the Cavaliers in the win over Duke. Much like the UNC game, all three phases posted grades above 81.85.
