Virginia Focused On Improvement, Not Quarterback Conversations

It may not be a controversy, but it’s definitely a conversation. Simply put, quarterbacks remain in focus for Hoo fans as the Virginia football team prepares for year three of the Tony Elliott era in spring practice.

Elliott, however, downplayed any notion that leans toward controversy. Tony Muskett and Anthony Colandrea both receive reps with the first team offense in practices this spring. The No. 1 goal is not to declare the No. 1 quarterback by the end of April, though. It’s to make both better options as starters.

“As I told them as we started spring, it’s how we finished the season. Tony was the starter, he won the job, and Colandrea played well and did a good job,” Elliott said. “That’s where we’re going to start, but we’re not going to worry about that other than that’s where we’re starting, but we’re going to give them both equal amount of reps. Both of those guys have been running with the ones, giving them an opportunity to go work with the top guys that we have on offense from an offensive line standpoint, backs, and receivers. They’ve got a great relationship. They’re working well together. It’s the spring. Everybody’s going to talk about all that stuff, what my focus is right now is both of them getting better.”

Regardless, the interest is understandable.
