Virginia Football: 5 Questions Still Under Evaluation This Spring

With a “normal” offseason, a nearly full roster, and a long list of veterans returning, Virginia football coach Tony Elliott continues to monitor the program’s progress into year three. Through seven practices, Elliott says the Cavaliers are “ahead” from where they were a year ago as spring ball starts to shift to the “evaluation” period in the last eight practices.

“Mentality wise I think we’re better, I think we’re in better condition, we have more depth,” Elliott said. “So now we can get good competitive work because we have more depth.”

Depth is one of the key questions Elliott and the Hoos have to answer this spring in several spots. Let’s take a deep dive into the questions Virginia hopes to be closer to answering by the end of spring practice. The annual Spring Game at Scott Stadium is set for April 20 at 2 p.m.

Where Do The Virginia Quarterbacks Stand?

No matter the language used around the McCue Center, Virginia has not had a true quarterback battle since 2016 when transfer Kurt Benkert beat out incumbent starter Matt Johns for the QB1 position. Since then UVA has gone from Benkert to Bryce Perkins to Brennan Armstrong without much debate.
