Will Veteran-Filled Virginia Defense Lead Bounce-Back Year?

Old man, grandpa, gramps, etc. The veterans on the Virginia defense have heard every old joke in the book this spring.

“Absolutely, I get it every single day,” sixth-year safety Antonio Clary said. “They call me Uncle Tone. It’s fun, it’s funny, but I still show them on the field that I still got it.”

Clary is far from the only one getting stick for being old as one of four Cavalier defenders in at least their sixth-year of college football. Defensive ends Chico Bennett Jr. and Ben Smiley III are two others. Kam Butler enters his seventh season as well.

“These are like PhD level football players,” UVA defensive coordinator John Rudzinski joked.
