It took all of one series for the Virginia football team to see its emphasis this spring on rushing the quarterback pay off Saturday. A sack on the first drive of the annual Spring Game came from a likely name: Chico Bennett Jr.
The sixth-year defensive end was all over the field in Saturday’s contest, finishing with 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks, although that number could have been higher.
“He’s going to get on me, he says I owe him two sacks out there today,” Cavalier coach Tony Elliott joked after the game, mentioning he might have blown the whistle a little early. “But it’s good to see him back there around the quarterback.”
