2006 Class: Robinson High School

Running back Lucas Caparelli and quarterback/punter/kicker Matt Goff , two players who had major roles in helping Robinson High School (Fairfax, VA) to an undefeated regular season a trip to the Division 6 state championship game in 2004, could both land Division 1-A scholarships. Caparelli, a Washington Post second-team all-metro selection as a junior, already has three scholarship offers in the fold.

“Virginia Tech has offered him, Wake Forest has offered him and Maryland has offered him,” Robinson head coach Mark Bendorf said. “And then I’ve got a handful of other verbal offers where people came through at the end of January finishing up senior recruiting. They had seen his tape and said ‘he’s an offer for us’ and ‘coach, he’s a kid we’re going to recruit. We’ll see you in the spring.’ But once I get the paperwork on those I’ll divulge but I suspect he’ll have a whole mailbag full once it’s all said and done.”

Caparelli enjoyed a very productive junior season. He rushed 219 times for 1,889 yards and had 18 receptions for 429 yards. He scored 28 total touchdowns, including two kick-off returns for touchdowns. The top players step up in big games, and Caparelli did just that in the state championship game versus Landstown even though the Rams lost 47-20.

“It was certainly a yeoman’s job there,” Bendorf said. “He had close to 200 yards rushing and another 50 yards called back. I think the thing that’s impressive about it was that he did it while playing full time on defense. And to be the primary ball carrier I was proud of his effort. It kind of really topped off the junior season that he had. I know he would have liked for the game to go the other way, but certainly he was doing everything he could I think.”
