6-3, 235-pound junior linebacker Brendan Beal is quickly closing in on 20 Division 1A scholarship offers. Virginia has offered a scholarship and Beal made an unofficial visit to Charlottesville last month, but the competition is heavy.

An inside linebacker in Roxbury’s (N.J.) 4-4 defensive set, Beal tallied around 140 tackles this past season. His total tackle number doubled the next closest teammate.

“There are a couple of things college coaches keep saying,” Roxbury head coach Cosmo Lorusso said. “First of all, he really plays well downhill. Everything he hits goes backwards. He is a legit 6-3, 235 pounds, and he has the speed to get sideline to sideline. He makes plays tackle-to-tackle and sideline-to-sideline.”
