10-Day Hoo Preview ’07: Horne Eyes Shot

Running back Raynard Horne is in the mix to earn carries this season.

Wide receiver Maurice Covington says he’s “looking forward to seeing who steps up at the running back spot.” So is everyone else. One of the prime candidates is redshirt freshmen tailback Raynard Horne . At 6’0″, 205 pounds and possessing sub 4.5 speed, Horne is among the new breed of backs that possess both power and raw speed.

Horne knows how to run and, like former Cavalier Wali Lundy, he has a nose for the end zone. As a high school senior, he rushed for more than 1,100 yards and scored 24 touchdowns.

“He’s got a good overall package of skills,” says coach Al Groh. “He’s got good straight-line speed. He’s a 206-pound, young player who’s going to get bigger and stronger. He’s got good physical development now and that will continue.”
