Latimer Talks Season, UVa

Earlier in the season, DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) head coach Bill McGregor raved about the leadership and positive attitude of senior Kyrrel Latimer . Last Saturday was a tough day for even Latimer to stay positive, as DeMatha fell short of a seventh straight WCAC Championship with a 14-7 loss to Good Counsel. The 5-11, 195-pound defensive back/wide receiver rebounded quickly, though.

“We definitely had an emotional locker room,” he said. “There wasn’t much really said after the game. On Monday at school, I talked to people and told them to keep positive. Keep your head up. We had a great season. We just fell one game short. I told the juniors to make sure they don’t feel this way next year. They have to bring back the DeMatha tradition.

“Everybody wants to win a championship, especially in their senior year. Good Counsel played a great game. There was nothing we could do about it. I wish we had another championship, but congratulations to them.”

Latimer is appreciative of the praise received from McGregor, saying he learned his leadership qualities from his parents and former DeMatha standouts Rodney McLeod and Kenny Tate (Maryland sophomore DB). Of course, McLeod is a sophomore safety at UVa.
