DeMatha Notes: Latimer Excited About London

DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) product Kyrrel Latimer has remained firm in his commitment to the University of Virginia, even when former coach Al Groh was first let go. The 5-11, 195-pound senior, a defensive back recruit, was very pleased to hear of the hiring of Mike London, a coach he has known now for several years.

“I’m very excited that Coach London is the new coach,” said Latimer, who expects to talk to Virginia’s new head man today or tomorrow. “I actually met him when he was recruiting Rodney McLeod as Virginia’s defensive coordinator, before he went to Richmond. From then we knew of each other, and then last year I sent my highlight tape to U of R and talked to him when he was at Richmond. We have knowledge of each other. He is a great guy.”

Latimer reflected on staying committed despite not knowing who the new head coach would be.

“It was a solid decision, but I was still curious to see who the coach would be,” he said. Anthony Poindexter kept in consistent contact with Latimer during the transition. “I would wonder what the new coach would be like. I never knew. It was a nerve wracking and time consuming.”
