Less than a month after receiving a scholarship offer from head coach Mike London, local defensive end prospect Osiris Crutchfield has verbally committed to the University of Virginia. Crutchfield, a 6’4″, 225-pound senior out of Western Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, revealed the news via Twitter.
After giving it some thought. I've decided to commit to the University of Virginia. #Wahoowa

In an ensuing tweet, Crutchfield added: “I would like to thank my family, teammates, and coaches for giving me the opportunity to achieve my goals. Thank you very much.”
A Group 3A second-team all-state selection in 2014, Crutchfield has been named the Conference 29 Defensive Player of the Year for his play on the defensive line his senior season. He saw action at defensive end and defensive tackle in 2015, finishing with close to 50 tackles including 15.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
“Being able to rush the passer and get in the backfield is the most translatable skill I have to the next level,” Crutchfield said in this EDGE article on November 4.
Crutchfield becomes the 27th overall prospect and the second Western Albemarle product in Virginia’s class of 2016. He joins place-kicker Holland Corbett, who graduated from WAHS last spring but is currently in a postgraduate semester at Fork Union. Corbett will enroll on Grounds in January of 2016.
Western Albemarle went 10-2 this season, losing in second round of the 3A playoffs to Staunton River, 85-79, in what was the highest scoring game between two Virginia high school teams according to the Roanoke Times.
