Christian Bliss, 2024 Guard, Commits To Virginia Basketball

The Virginia men’s basketball team secured a commitment from one of the top targets on its board Friday. Point guard Christian Bliss made the call for the Hoos from the class of 2024. He’s the first commit in the class for UVA.

Bliss chose Virginia over offers from Villanova, Xavier, and Miami as finalists. He took official visits to UVA and Xavier last week after an April visit to Nova. He zeroed in on his decision from there and went with the Hoos.

Bliss announced his decision on social media.

The 6’4”, 205-pound prospect steps into a point guard lineage full of success in the Tony Bennett era. London Perrantes, Ty Jerome, Kihei Clark, and Reece Beekman have been the recent recruits to fill that PG role with each winning conference championships of some variety and all picked up All-ACC individual honors as well. Beekman also earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year recognition last season.

With Beekman returning for his senior year and redshirt junior Dante Harris in the fold as a transfer, Bliss becomes the immediate heir apparent as a lead guard for future projected rosters. Based on his recruiting rankings and production as both a high school and AAU player, Bliss is ready for that task.

Rivals.com rates Bliss as a 4-star recruit and recently moved him into the top 100 for the Class of 2024 at No. 92. He was named the non-PIAA state Player of the Year at the George School (Pennsylvania), which posted a 24-7 record during his junior season last year. He averaged approximately 20 points and 5 assists per game this season for George. Playing for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL AAU circuit this spring and summer, he’s averaged 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while shooting 39.0% from 3-point range.

PSA, of course, was the AAU program of Jerome and the two players have known each other through that organization. During his trip to Charlottesville last week, Bliss was able to catch up with Jerome and current Cavalier Ryan Dunn, who were both in town for camps at the time. He told Houston Wilson at Rivals that he was able to talk with his fellow New Yorkers and others about what to expect at Virginia and that it was “really helpful.”

    1. Huh? I can’t imagine taking this news in any other way but overwhelmingly positive.

  1. I think this is a great fit for UVA. Coach Bennett does a great job of finding guys who fits his system
