Christian Zachary, 2024 WR, Commits To Virginia Football

After a big recruiting weekend full of official visits, the Virginia football team has started to reap the benefits this week. UVA pulled in its second commitment of the young week Tuesday when South Carolina receiver Christian Zachary made the call for the Hoos.

Zachary announced his decision on social media.

Shown in that Tweet with Zachary is Virginia receivers coach Adam Mims, who moved up to that position with the departure of Marques Hagans. Mims played college football at Furman in the state of South Carolina and coached in nearby Tennessee at UT-Chattanooga as well, giving him recruiting contacts in the region.

Zachary chose the Hoos over offers from Duke, ODU, Appalachian State, East Carolina, and others with his recruitment picking up steam since March. He had also visited Clemson this spring. Already high on UVA previously, the official visit this weekend helped seal the deal. He became the fifth player in the class of 2024 to pledge to the program, joining Grant Ellinger (Illinois), Ethan Minter (Virginia), John Rogers (Virginia), and Benjamin York (Virginia). 247 Sports rates all five commits thus far, including Zachary, as 3-star recruits.

The 6’3”, 190-pound prospect plays both football and basketball for Calhoun County. His Hudl profile shows a 50-second 400-meter run time, a bench press of 225, and a squat lift of 405 pounds. He described himself as an “aggressive deep threat” receiver. MaxPreps.com shows limited five-game stats but Zachary averaged 21.0 yards per catch with a touchdown.

This is the first receiver to commit in the class of 2024. Virginia brought in two receivers, Jaden Gibson and Titus Ivy, and two athletes that could be slotted at receiver, Suderian Harrison and TyLyric Coleman, in last year’s class. Gibson enrolled in January and participated in spring practices with UVA. The only scholarship recruits listed at receiver as sophomores on the current roster are Dakota Twitty and JR Wilson so this is a position of need in this recruiting cycle.
