Kevon Gray, 2024 CB, Commits To Virginia Football

After picking up a Saturday afternoon commitment, the Virginia football team didn’t have to wait long to add another prospect to the list. Defensive back recruit Kevon Gray added another recruit from Georgia to the class of 2024 when he made his decision.

Gray joined a trio of other commitments in the class from the state with Chase Morrison, Jaylin Lackey, and Cedric Franklin II all choosing the Cavaliers from the Peach State. UVA now has 11 total commitments in the class with Ethan Minter (Virginia), John Rogers (Virginia), Benjamin York (Virginia), Grant Ellinger (Illinois), Christian Zachary (South Carolina), Triston Ward (Massachusetts), and KeShawn Adams (Connecticut) making up the rest of the list.

Gray announced his decision on social media.

Gray chose the Cavaliers over offers from Florida State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Kansas, Kentucky, JMU, and others. He had been on visits to FSU and GT, but a visit to UVA in early June pulled him into the fold after he picked up a Virginia offer in May. 247 sports rates the defensive back as the 120th best prospect in the state of Georgia. He’s a 3-star recruit in 247’s ratings – all 11 commitments in the class carry that rating into the summer.

The 6’1”, 170-pound prospect projects as a corner prospect for the Hoos, joining fellow state of Georgia commit Jaylin Lackey at that position. It’s a position of projected need for the 2024 cycle. The Hoos only took one corner officially in last season’s class in Keandre Walker, though some athletes could play the position based on slotting, and only one underclassman, sophomore Ant Fisher, is listed there on the current roster.

According to his Hudl profile, Gray recorded a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. As a junior at Creekside High School, he recorded 30 tackles and 4 pass breakups for a team that went 10-3 and qualified for the Georgia 5A playoffs.
