Myles Brown, 2024 Linebacker, Commits To Virginia Football

The Virginia football team landed a mid-season commitment from the class of 2024 Wednesday when Ridge View High School linebacker Myles Brown made the call for the Cavaliers. The program has secured 14 commitments in this cycle to date.

Brown is the first recruit from South Carolina in this class. The Hoos have landed four players from Georgia, three from Virginia, two from Ohio and one each from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Florida, and Illinois.

Brown announced his decision on social media. Current Virginia freshman linebacker Kam Robinson replied to the commitment Tweet with a “let’s work” message.

Brown checked out UVA in late September during the weekend of the NC State game and picked up an offer after that visit. Army, Charlotte, Miami (Ohio), and South Carolina State also had offered. He visited Clemson this past weekend, but did not have an offer. He carries a 3-star rating on Rivals.com. That continues the pattern for the 2024 class to date. All 14 players have 3-star ratings at this time from at least one of the recruiting services.

Another trend within the class is a focus on shoring up the middle layer of the defense, meaning linebackers and edge rushers/hybrid players. Brown is the first linebacker commit in the class, but he joins Tyler Simmons and Chase Morrison that are edge prospects. Those three players all are listed at 6’4”. Brown is 195 as a linebacker recruit, while Simmons and Morrison are 260 and 240 respectively.

At Ridge View, Brown has recorded 117 tackles with 7 sacks in his career. That includes 52 tackles and 4 sacks in 7 games so far this season. With Virginia generally using 2 linebackers in John Rudzinski’s scheme, that tackling ability should be helpful if it translates to the college level.
