Kameron Courtney, 2024 Receiver, Commits To Virginia Football

With December signing day on the calendar, the Virginia football team added a late cycle pick-up on Tuesday when Freedom High School’s Kameron Courtney committed to the Cavaliers. The in-state prospect originally had committed to Indiana, but flipped to UVA after a coaching change with the Hoosiers.

Courtney announced his decision on social media.

The 6’0″, 190-pound receiver and defensive back finished with 1,167 all-purpose yards the last two seasons per his MaxPreps.com profile. That included 51 catches for 839 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He earned all-district honors at receiver, defensive back, and kick returner in 2023.

Courtney took an official visit to Virginia last week and opted to stay home. Courtney played with his Freedom High team in the Virginia Group 6A State Championship at Scott Stadium where the Eagles won their second straight title. He played a key role in the victory with 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 receiving touchdown, and an interception. Freedom has won 29 straight games.

The Hoos hope Courtney can generate more success in Scott Stadium now that he’s joined the program. He will enroll in January and is expected to be slotted at receiver.

A 3-star recruit via 247 Sports, Courtney’s decision to commit just ahead of signing day gave Virginia four 2024 prospects from within the state. Episcopal’s John Rogers, Lake Braddock’s Benjamin York, and Thomas Dale’s Ethan Minter already had already picked UVA. The Hoos also added tight end Tyler Neville and receiver Chris Tyree as transfers returning to their home state for a final year of eligibility. The 2024 early signing period class moved to 13 commitments with Courtney. All are 3-star recruits in the 247 rankings.
