Trell Harris, Kent State Transfer Receiver, Commits To Virginia Football

The Virginia football team’s recruiting momentum kept on rolling Saturday as the program picked up another commitment in the transfer portal. Kent State receiver Trell Harris became the latest transfer to announce his choice as UVA.

The Hoos now have added seven players via the portal this month. Harris joined receiver Andre Greene Jr. (North Carolina), cornerback Kendren Smith (Pennsylvania), offensive lineman Drake Metcalf (Central Florida/Stanford), tight end Tyler Neville (Harvard), linebacker/defensive back Corey Thomas (Akron), and receiver Chris Tyree (Notre Dame) as incoming transfers. Harris confirmed his decision on social media.

With Harris, Virginia has added three receivers this month via the portal. Greene, who had a standout career at St. Christopher’s in Richmond, and Tyree, who also starred as an in-state prospect at Thomas Dale, made the move to UVA first. Harris played at Nazareth Academy in Illinois where 247 Sports tabbed him as a 2-star recruit. In the portal, however, Harris had a lot of interest and he chose the Cavaliers over offers from Pittsburgh, Minnesota, South Florida, Vanderbilt, Liberty, and more.

In other words, Cavalier receivers coach Adam Mims added multiple options with potential to the offense.

Tyree had 484 receiving yards with 3 touchdowns at Notre Dame this past season and 3,284 all-purpose yards in his career. Greene only made 5 catches with 1 touchdown while at UNC, but he produced 85 catches and 1,456 yards in his high school career. That included 15 touchdowns as a senior when he was the All Prep League Player of the Year.

Harris, meanwhile, tallied 39 catches for 536 yards and 2 touchdowns in two seasons with Kent State. He also had 12 touchdowns as a high school senior at Nazareth. The 6’1, 187-pound receiver also factored into the return game for his high school team with 750 return yards and 6 return touchdowns.

It is not surprising to see receivers with interest in Virginia. Northwestern transfer Malik Washington put up big numbers in orange and blue last season with 110 receptions, 1,426 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns. That’s in addition to the numbers from returning receiver Malachi Fields, who had 58 receptions for 811 yards and 5 touchdowns this past season too. Since 2017, Dontayvion Wicks (1,203 in 2021), Hasise Dubois (1,062 in 2019), Olamide Zaccheaus (1,058 in 2018) Keytaon Thompson (990 in 2021), Zaccheaus (895 in 2017), and Terrell Jana (886 in 2019) have all surpassed 850 receiving yards for the Cavaliers.

  1. We need to recruit more offensive & defensive linemen to provide more depth in the trenches.
Depth at all positions will help us when injuries happen. A deep team hopefully will provide
stronger 4TH Quarter play to win closer games at the end. We need to sell out the stadium
for every home game. Create an atmosphere that will produce a winner. Build a program !
YES IT CAN BE DONE HERE, KEEP THE FAITH ! WAHOOWA !
