Xay Davis, 2025 Running Back, Commits To Virginia Football

The Virginia football team’s recruiting roll extended into another day as the Cavaliers picked up another commitment on Friday night. That’s the fifth Class of 2025 recruit to make the call for the Hoos in eight days. This time, Xay Davis out of Collegiate School in Richmond announced UVA as his choice.

Davis made the announcement on social media. He joined Donovan Robinson, Isaiah Reese, Willem Thurber, and Justin Rowe as commitments since last Friday.

Davis’ commitment gives Virginia 11 recruits in the Class of 2025. He’s just the second in-state prospect alongside Isaiah Robinson. Both come from Richmond. Robinson plays at Trinity Episcopal.

Davis currently carries no ranking on 247 Sports nor Rivals. The two sites reported offers from Old Dominion, Dartmouth, and New Hampshire in addition to UVA. He reported on his social media that he had offers from Coastal Carolina, Bryant, Columbia, Princeton, and Cornell recently as well. That Virginia offer came last summer following a camp with the Cavaliers.

A multi-sport athlete, Davis participates in football, basketball, and track for Collegiate. On the field, he posted 908 yards last season split among rushing and receiving per MaxPreps. That included 412 rushing yards and 496 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns.

The current run of five commitments featured three linebackers in Rowe, Robinson, and Reese, while Thurber and Davis project to offense at tight end and running back. At 6’0”, 185 pounds, Davis is the only current running back commitment in this cycle. Virginia did not take a RB in the Class of 2024 either, but does have several young backs on its current roster. Xavier Brown, Donte Hawthorne, and Noah Vaughn all have three or four years of eligibility still remaining for the Wahoos.
