Virginia Football Game Vs. Florida State Postponed

The University of Virginia football program will have to wait to play its ninth game of the 2020 season, as the November 28 matchup at Florida State has been postponed because of coronavirus issues within the FSU football program.

The Atlantic Coast Conference issued the following official release Saturday morning.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced that today’s Virginia at Florida State football game has been postponed.

The rescheduling follows positive tests, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Florida State football team. The team is adhering to the outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report, which is available on theACC.com (full report).

As was previously announced, the 2020 ACC Football scheduling model includes 11 games (10 conference plus one non-conference), played over at least 13 weeks with each team having two open dates. Through games of Nov. 21, the ACC has played 69 of its 78 scheduled games (88.5 percent). Six of those games have been rescheduled, one non-conference opponent was replaced, one game was canceled and one game was postponed. There have been several changes to the last four weeks of the schedule that can be found on theACC.com.

In an official statement, Florida State Director of Athletics David Coburn said: “Our team underwent the mandated third-party testing yesterday and learned late last night that we had one positive test. Contact tracing this morning determined that, with opt-outs and injuries, we had just 44 scholarship players for the game, with some position groups depleted almost entirely.

“We deeply regret that many Florida State and Virginia fans have already traveled to the game as well as Virginia’s team,” Coburn added. “We simply had no way of knowing we would not be playing until this morning. We made every effort to play, but we could not do so in a way that was safe for the players.”

The Hoos (4-4), winners of three straight games, now return to Charlottesville and look ahead to a December 5 home contest with Boston College. No time has been set for the Cavaliers and Eagles matchup.

  1. FSU is a garbage team and a garbage school. Always has been and always will be. A degree from them is worth less than one from Trump University.

      1. 100 percent. Absolutely unconscionable that they held off on an announcement until after UVA’s entire team and hundreds of fans had traveled to Tallahassee—especially since they were fresh off another postponement fiasco w/ Clemson. POS administration. POS school.
