The Virginia football program announced a new addition to its future schedules this week and the opponent will be brand new for the gridiron. The Cavaliers have agreed to two games with Washington State, which mark the first ever meeting between the two programs that started in 1890’s.

The Hoos will host the Cougars on Sept. 27, 2025. WSU are scheduled to host UVA on Sept. 13, 2031. Both games fall on Saturday.

With that addition, the 2025 schedule for Virginia currently looks like this:

  • Aug. 30: Coastal Carolina (H)
  • Sept. 13: William & Mary (H)
  • Sept. 27: Washington State (H)
  • Florida State (H)
  • Stanford (H)
  • Virginia Tech (H)
  • Wake Forest (H)
  • California (A)
  • Louisville (A)
  • Duke (A)
  • North Carolina (A)

That slate obviously has a little bit of a West Coast flavor with Washington State, Stanford, and California all on the schedule. The Cardinal and Golden Bears, of course, have joined the ACC so those are conference games. Some fans questioned the reasoning behind adding another team from the opposite coast to the docket, while others seemed excited by the new matchup. Check out some of the reactions here.
